Prophylaxis (Dental Cleanings)
Prophylaxis is a cleaning performed by a trained dental hygienist to thoroughly clean your gums and and teeth. At Needham Dental, our hygiene program is the foundation of our comprehensive dental care program. Proper dental cleanings stop the progression of gingivitis and periodontal disease.
Regular hygiene appointments not only keep your mouth and body healthy, but also keep significant dental problems from arising. Our staff of hygienists will remove Tartar and Plaque, polish your teeth and give you instructions for home care.
Sealants
Dental sealant is a thin plastic coating applied on the chewing surfaces of back teeth to prevent tooth decay. The sealant bonds into the grooves of the teeth, forming a protective shield over the enamel of each tooth. It protects tooth decay by “sealing out” plaque and food in younger kids who are cavity prone, between the ages 6-14 years of age. Sealants are also recommended to adults with deep grooves on the biting surfaces of their back teeth.

All patients at Needham Dental go through a comprehensive oral exam. Complete oral exam includes:

Oral Cancer Screening
Oral cancer screening is performed on all patients during your comprehensive oral exam at Needham Dental. Our doctors, with help of special tools if required, are trained to identify any growths and lesions, which need to be further evaluated.
